Horses feel safe in the herd. They are highly anxious when alone – separated from their herd. They need each other to feel calm and protected. I particularly loved painting this for that close feeling of safety and physical trust they feel for and need from each other- naturally, innately.
Of all horses, wild mustangs take my heart. I love the variation of color, the mix of the breeds in nature, their very expressive ears, and the look in their eyes…
Mustangs are tough, sure footed, strong and smart, nothing at all like the thoroughbreds of the racehorse industry. I guess that’s what makes mustangs special to me. They are some of Nature’s most beautiful creatures, survivors of harsh conditions of the prairie lands of the America. Wild mustangs are typically not as big in size compared to the purebred breeds, but I find their spirits unbroken by the likes of man. They possess and exude a freedom, a powerful symbol that reminds me of the strength and endurance that I carry deep inside.
